Are you Bridge's next intern?

Each year, the Center for Michigan selects an outstanding minority student for a paid internship with the Center's Bridge Magazine. The Center seeks advanced undergraduate and graduate students who need intensive reporting experiences and clips to make the transition to professional journalism.

The fellowship is for $8,000. The fellow is expected to work 20 hours per week for Bridge. The fellowship runs from Sept. 1 to May 31.

Bridge is based in Lansing. However, the Center will consider applicants who can demonstrate the ability to work out of their homes in Detroit, Grand Rapids and elsewhere.

The fellow will get the opportunity to identify, research and write stories for Bridge under the direction of the senior editor and other staffers. This is an outstanding opportunity to learn in the trenches of public-service journalism.

Applications for the 2012-13 fellowship may be submitted starting July 1, 2012. Application packets should include a cover letter with a brief critique of Bridge (www.bridgemi.com) and:

-- Resume

-- Five examples of your journalism

-- Three references

Submit (VIA EMAIL ONLY) the packet to Senior Editor Derek Melot, [email protected]. DEADLINE TO SUBMIT: July 18. Finalists will be contacted to arrange an in-person interview inLansingin late July or early August.
